Get out and about as we celebrate Check Out Chorley Week. Across the Chorley borough there are lots of great days out, special events and activities to experience, which is also half term week.

Visit Chorley in Lancashire and enjoy a day out at an attraction you’ve always wanted to visit, or maybe one you didn’t even know about. Take a walk in the county side and discover Chorley’s beautiful villages or hop on your bikes and explore an established cycle route or make up your own.

Re-visit or discover Chorley’s stunning parks, including Astley Hall, Coach House and Park, Yarrow Valley Country Park and Cuerden Valley Park. Embark on an adventure high in the trees or across water at one or all of Chorley’s outdoor attractions including Go Ape Rivington, Rock and River in Mawdesley and The Anderton Centre.

Unlock the waterways and walk along the Leeds Liverpool Canal which runs through the heart of Chorley. Be sure to check out the narrow boats impressively negotiating Johnson’s Hillock Locks – a series of seven consecutive locks!

Enjoy a Picnic in the Park

Pack up your picnics, gather family and friends and check out Chorley’s Astley Park for an afternoon of free fun, activities and entertainment at the town’s annual Picnic in the Park event. As part of Check Out Chorley week, Chorley Council is bringing lots of free fun to Astley Park including activities for children like sports, games, arts and crafts, football challenges, a climbing wall, Punch and Judy shows and more. There will also be the opportunity to meet Stick Man, celebrate Chorley FC’s promotion to the National League and for a small charge, children can enjoy some small fairground rides and a bouncy castle. Also, don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore Astley Hall and the exhibitions in Astley Coach House and Astley Farmhouse. For more information, click here.

Journey Through History

Journey through over 400 years of history to reveal the secrets of Astley Hall, one of the most intriguing historic houses in the North West. Astley Hall is open 12 noon until 4.30pm from Saturday to Wednesday during Check Out Chorley week. The Hall will also be open on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June as part of Picnic in the Park.

While visiting Astley Hall, make sure you also see the Zak Last exhibition in the Coach House and enjoy a day out in Astley Park exploring the Walled Garden, play areas, Pets’ Corner, fantastic food in Café Ambio, traditional games like bowls and tennis, plus much more. Enjoy a Cruise Along the Canal

Take on an Activity Club

If your child or children would like a challenging adventure during half term, get them signed up for Rock and River’s activity days. There are plenty of activities to try from Tuesday 28 May until Friday 31 May with every day a new mix of fun.

Watch the Greatest Shows

Check out Chorley Little Theatre this week for an afternoon at the cinema and lots of laughs from Manford’s Comedy Club, Don’t Panic! A Dad’s Army Tribute Show and John-Luke Roberts. On Tuesday 28 May, the theatre will transform into a cinema for a fantastic screening of Spider Man: Into The Spiderverse. Then on Saturday 1 June, Manford’s Comedy Club returns with Jason selecting some of his favourite circuit comedians for a great night of comedy.

Go on an Adventure

If you feel like being a bit more adventurous then you can make your way to Go Ape at Rivington where you can climb your way through the tree tops and go on fantastically fun zip lines; perfect for those that are a bit of a thrill seeker. Or, if you’re looking to organise a group trip, why not check out The Anderton Centre and take part in water-based and land-based activities.

Tee Time

If you’re feeling a bit more competitive then take your friends and family to Duxbury Park Golf with plenty of summer sizzler offers. Even if you’re not a golfer, there’s regular family activities and the brilliant Nineteen restaurant.
