Come along to Astley Park for a VE day themed afternoon of free family fun, activities and entertainment at our annual Picnic in the Park event!
Picnic in the Park
Picnic in the Park returns to Astley Park on Sunday 11 May with a VE Day theme!
From 12noon to 4pm all are welcome to bring a blanket, pick a spot and enjoy a picnic on the lawns in front of Astley Hall, plus lots of wonderful free entertainment and activities.
Entertainment and Activities
- Fabulous music with 1940's style covers of modern classics, 80's and modern day hits from Sherri and the Speakeasies, The 80's Rewind and Miley Cyrus tribute
- Stalls from local cadet groups and military regiments inlcuding 64 Medical Squadron, Chorley Air Cadets and RBL Riders Branch
- Military themed walkabout acts 'The Tank' and 'Toy Soldiers'
- Static Car Rally in partnership with Lancashire Vehicle Club
- Circus Skills from Chorley Schools Sports Partnership
- Make a flag crafting activity
- Vintage dancing from Shincracker Swing
- Fairground rides*
- Face painting*

Parking and travel
- A one-way traffic system will be in place from 11am to 6pm on the day along Chancery Road from junction with West Way to the roundabout at Euxton Lane. Cars may park along the opposite side of Chancery Road and must refrain from parking on the residential streets surrounding in Astley Village.
- Free car parking will be available on Hallgate and Ackhurst Lodge car parks on a first-come, first served basis
- Plenty of free or low cost parking will be available across the town centre, with a short walk through Astley Park to the event site from the Park Road entrance. View information on town centre car parks.
Other event information
- Picnics are welcome, food and drink will also be available to purchase from vendors on the day
- No barbecues are allowed on the park at any time
- Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome to the event
