Enjoy a magical Christmas in Chorley

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year in Chorley with so much to check out that you’ll never want the celebrations and Christmas cheer to end. There’s everything from festive market stalls to traditional lights switch on events to street entertainment, lots of independent shops for unique Christmas presents, cheeky elves, Christmas crafts and not forgetting opportunities to meet the main man – Father Christmas!

Chorley's Real Ice Rink

Get your skates on this Christmas and glide, pirouette and whirl across Chorley’s Real Ice Rink when it returns to the town on 10 December 2021 – 4 January 2022 (except Christmas Day) at Cleveland St (across from the Town Hall).

The Real Ice Rink provides a fantastic opportunity to get together with family and friends and experience the thrill of skating on real ice. There will be some fantastic themed skating days and school skating slots, and there will also be the Cub Club skate sessions children 3 – 7 years old.

Not only can you take a glide on the ice, there will be children’s rides and Betty’s Tipis, with a family friendly atmosphere will be serving sharing foods and festive drinks.


£6 per skater

Family ticket is £20 (2 adults and 2 children)

Cub Club (for young children aged 3-7 years old)
£3 per child and £3 for an accompanying adult (maximum of two adults per family at the discounted price of £3 per ticket, any additional skaters to this will be required to the pay full price of £6 per ticket).
Ice skate sizes start at size 8 children.

Open every day (except Christmas Day) from 10 December – 4 January 2022.
Ice skates will be provided for skaters attending the ice rink and these will range from size 8 children’s size to size 13 adults.

School & Community Groups

Schools and community groups can skate on the ice rink for a discounted price of £3 per skater during the following dates: Monday 13 December to Wednesday 22 December. To arrange a school or community group booking, please email: events@chorley.gov.uk

Time Credits

There is an opportunity for volunteers who have given their time and earned Time Credit tickets to exchange them for skating sessions at the ice rink. If this applies to you, please visit Tempo Time Credits website here.

The Big Switch On

November 21 will see the family stage show and event get Chorley’s Christmas celebrations well and truly underway and transform Chorley town centre in twinkly winter wonderland with delightful displays lining the streets.

Totally Locally Chorley Christmas Market will start the day at 10am around the town centre with over 55 independent traders with stalls ranging from food, drink, giftware, clothing, home decor, beauty products, pet gifts, & artisan traders. The main stage on Market street will have entertainment including some fantastic local acts, children’s favourite entertainers and our 2 special guests will be on stage to switch on the lights and officially begin the Christmas celebrations. 

This year we are delighted to have local sports stars Olivia Broome and Holly Bradshaw along to show off their bronze medals and talk about their experiences from Tokyo games this summer.

The Totally Locally Christmas Market will start at 10am and run through till 6pm, with the entertainment on the Market Street stage starting at 2pm and going through till the big switch on at 5pm.

Please be aware that Market Street will be closed on this day from 6am until 10pm for the switch on event, alternative routes will be sign posted.

Christmas Market

Chorley’s Christmas Markets return for a third  year bigger and better, on Sunday 21 November, organised by Totally Locally.
The day will start at 10am around the town centre and run through until 6pm with over 55 independent traders with stalls ranging from food, drink, giftware, clothing, home decor, beauty products, pet gifts, & artisan traders.
Plus there’ll be Santa’s Grotto and street entertainment.

Post your letter to Father Christmas

Don’t forget to write your list and letter to Santa and post it in his very special post box located in the centre of Market Walk  

Santa's Grotto

Santa and his elves will be at Chorley Town Hall every weekend in the run up to Christmas. Santa can’t wait to meet you and hear about the lovely things you have been up to this year. Tell him if you have been naughty or nice and chat about what you are wishing for this Christmas. 

Tickets to meet Santa must be booked in advance at £5 per child, this includes a present. There is a maximum of 5 children and 2 adults per slot. Please read the below instructions carefully before booking. 

STEP 1 – Select 1 ticket for the date and time you would like to visit Santa, this will permit one child entry to the grotto. 

STEP 2 – If more than one child will be attending you must purchase the correct number of ‘Additional Child’ tickets. 
The below image shows how to book for 4 children to visit Santa at 10:50am. 

STEP 3 – Checkout and enter the age and genders of all the children visiting Santa when prompted.

Tickets go on sale on Monday 1 November at 10am. 

Jack and the Beanstalk - SOLD OUT

Jack & The Beanstalk makes its way to Chorley for a magical one-off performance for the annual Christmas pantomime at Chorley Town Hall. 

Tickets are £4.50 a person plus booking fee.
