Design the medal for the Chorley 10K and 2K Family Run 2026

Chorley 10K and 2K Family Run

This competition is a fantastic opportunity to design the medals for this year’s Chorley 10K and 2K Family Run (taking place on Sunday 3 May 2026) - a lasting memento for thousands of runners taking part.

So that your design entry can be considered, please ensure that you read the important information below before submitting your design.

Deadline for entries is midnight on Sunday 15 March 2026 – information on how to submit your entry can be found in the information below.

Two designs will be chosen as winning entries (one for Chorley 10K and one for Chorley 2K Family Run):

  • The competition to design the medal for the 2K Family Run is open to children of school age
  • The competition to design the medal for the Chorley 10K is open to any age

Please specify which medal your design is intended for when entering.

The theme of your design is up to you, but we’d like your design to be connected to Chorley and the event.

Below is some optional inspiration:

  • A Chorley landmark
  • Community and family participation
  • Runners in motion
  • Civic pride
  • Celebration of achievement
  • Designs for the 2K medals may feel slightly more playful and family-focused.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Design Requirements

Your design must:

  • Fit within a circular format
  • Be suitable for metal production (die-cast or stamped)
  • Work in relief (raised and recessed areas)
  • Be bold and clear at small scale
  • Be original artwork (no copied images)

  • Black & white or greyscale preferred
  • Hand-drawn designs are welcome (clear scan or photograph)

Please note:

  • The Chorley 10K / 2K Family Run logos may be added to the design prior to production so you do not need to include the event logos in your design
  • You are not required to design the ribbon for the medal, just the medal.

What Works Well on Medals

Medals are not printed like posters - they are moulded in metal. Designs should:

  • Use strong outlines
  • Include solid shapes and clear contrast
  • Avoid very fine detail (thin lines may not cast well)
  • Avoid large areas of flat empty space
  • Consider depth (foreground and background elements)

Simple, impactful designs usually work best.

What Cannot Be Included:

  • ✖ Copyrighted logos or images without written permission
  • ✖ Complex gradients or photographic images
  • ✖ Extremely fine text
  • ✖ Overly intricate patterns
  • ✖ Cut-out shapes (must remain fully circular)

If including text, keep it minimal and legible.

Production Considerations

  • Raised areas become polished highlights.
  • Recessed areas create shadow and depth.
  • Fine detail smaller than 0.5mm may not reproduce clearly.
  • Text smaller than 8pt equivalent may be unreadable at 50mm.

  • Chorley Council may reproduce and adapt the design for medal production.
